Sizzling Succulents
Summer is sizzling! Boulder reached 99* yesterday, and summer is just beginning. If you can bare the warm weather, take a hike along the Flatirons or by Wonderland Lake, where wanderers are treated to trails dotted with a variety of cactus and succulents.
Succulents have maintained a trend for the bride seeking an earthy, hearty wedding style. Whether accenting blue eryngium and yellow spray roses or holding together an earthy, fresh green and crisp white bouquet with willow, the succulent’s versatility is always apparent and encourages creativity for our designers.
Here in the shop, we like to also offer those arid dwellers as an alternative to the standard floral design, and man are they popular! Our Succulent Gardens come complete with five different size and types of cactus and succulents planted in a locally made barn wood box. These designs are easy to care for and always look awesome, making a great summertime gift on these sizzling days.

The Bride that’s not Afraid of Color
The end of spring and beginning of summer opens Pandora’s Box of sultry tones and hot hued blooms. As vintage powders and rustic woods are always popular floral selections on the big day, bright pops of color and dazzling shades make us smile.
It takes a certain bride to not fear color. She’s usually bold, out-going and courageous…. and knows how to have a great time! Just this past weekend Boulder Bloom’s was honored to design one of the most colorful weddings we’ve had yet. Neon yellows, fuchsias, purples, and lime greens were a blast for us to transform into high style and trendy designs.
Hosted at a local bowling alley, Lucky Strike, the flowers complimented the industrial, modern, up-scale party atmosphere. Neon signs were mere backdrops to the five-tiered Biedermeier bouquets with green cymbidium orchids, fern fronds, magenta roses, black calla lilies, green tick dianthus, black Ti leaves and peacock feathers.
As much as Boulder Blooms loves our woodsy and natural brides, chic, colorful and trendy styles are also right down our (bowling) alley!

Submerged Style
The compound elements essential to all living things, water is not only vital to the livelihood of plants and animals, but a popular choice for wedding reception designs.
This season Boulder Blooms has already provided a number of submerged arrangements as centerpieces. The possibilities are endless. Orchids are always a popular choice. Pin-cushion proteas and lily grass topped off with a floating candle or small arrangements with a variety of blooms are also stunning options.
Occasionally the water stands alone. Glamorous arrangements resting on large cylinders of water create a clean line and an extra element of shine throughout a reception hall. Depending on the bride, accent materials like willow, river rocks, or sparkling marbles bring the whole design together.
And remember… on these hot summer days treat yourself to a nice, tall glass of ice water!

A Peony For Your Thoughts
Perhaps because it has one of the briefest blossoming season in fresh cut blooms, peonies are in constant demand. Unfortunately for the brides of Autumn, the garden rose, which is a close substitute, can’t quite encompasses the lush oomph of a peony.
Usually not available until the last week of May into the first weeks of June, this year we are in luck; the peonies are flowering early- and just in time for Mother’s Day! Peonies offer a variety of focal colors and pops in different ranges of pinks, corals, and fuchsias. Different peony types allow versatility in design style and compliment an array of atmospheres. Single, double, Japanese, anemone, semi-double, and bomb double blooms smell exquisite and upgrade any design to high end.
Peonies, whose in some legends name is derived form the Greek god Paeon, grow herbaceous from zone 3-8. Globally these beauties pop up in China, Japan, Europe and North America. They are used in the eastern and western worlds for ornamental and medicinal purposes.
To celebrate the early blooming season and Mother’s Day weekend, Boulder Blooms is offering some beautiful designs with peonies as focals.

Spring Frost
Spring snows have so much character. Driving around Boulder after Monday and Tuesday’s gentle snow looked like paintings of cherry blossoms, tulips, and cottages on white canvas. Thomas Kinkaid could certainly find a subject that one day would end up on a cross-stitch. When cozy weather comes, Boulder Blooms stays pretty busy. People love to send colorful, fresh arrangements to bring spring indoors on gray days. This week the phones were ringing crazy for locally grown flowers. Thankfully, we were fully stocked on lilies, iris, tulips, ranunculus, and freesia, all locally grown. The Local Yokel and Tree Hugger Bouquet are two arrangements made specifically with local flowers, and who knows how many of those we designed!
English Country
This week we also offered an array of stunning premium flowers. Some more exotic and interesting flowers included tuberose, birds of paradise, gypsy dianthus, gladioli, and agapanthus, a personal favorite. Paired with seasonal fillers such as boronia, wax flower, rice flower, and heathers, these arrangements were sure to wow.

March Madness
What a week! We had some amazing flower orders here at Boulder Blooms. Thankfully our design team loves nothing more than some fabulous customers with unique and creative requests.

Business is interesting in the trends that customers, independent from each other, will order with such similar wishes. Low, high style, and limited greens were some of the desires our clients had this week.
Possibly it was the first tulips sprouting on Pearl Street, or the blossoms blooming on the forsythia bushes and plum trees. Either one, keep ‘em coming! The fresher the customer’s idea, the more enthusiastic we are to create something one of a kind and gorgeous for the people we love!
Here’s some of our largest, most stunning arrangements of the week:

15th Annual Boulder Wedding Showcase
What an incredible weekend! The 15th Annual Boulder Wedding Showcase this past Sunday displayed so many fabulous local wedding vendors at Rembrandt Yard and Boulder Theater.
Each bride that stopped by our Boulder Blooms display received an adorable narcissus bulb resting on river rocks in a glass vase. One lucky bride received the grand prize, a free bridal bouquet! We all threw our hands in the air and celebrated with her.
Our exhibit included several cutting-edge bridal bouquets, centerpieces, and attendant bouquets. Consulting personally with each bride that stopped by, the trends of what we see for 2012 became evermore clear.
Soft romance with touches of nature and pops of color took center stage. Eve’s Bouquet was one of the most popular at our display, with the natural greens of roses, Leucadendron, geranium foliage, spider chrysanthemums, green hypericum, Brezilia berries, birch branches, and artichokes. Accents of feathers and twine nests brought the bouquet back to nature.
Juliet’s Bouquet played to the brides looking for soft romance in traditional Victorian colors with a modern approach. Juliet garden roses, powder pink spray roses, and wax flower with accents of phaleonopsis orchids drew in several brides to take a closer look.
Succulents, peonies, and peacock blue were components that came up several times throughout the day. It’s important to note for brides-to-be that peonies have a small time frame of availability during peak season: the end of May and the first two weeks of June.
Walking our brides through the steps we take to ensure their perfect day is draped in flowers, we arranged dozens of complimentary consultations in the weeks to come! If you couldn’t make this wonderful event and are still interested in consulting with a floral designer regarding your wedding, don’t hesitate to call– we can squeeze you in!
This week’s surprise… Come into Boulder Blooms for a free bouquet of Irises!
