Annual Oregon Evergreen Cutting
The weekend after Thanksgiving kicks off the annual evergreen cutting excursion in Beaver Creek, Oregon. This year, we actually dodged the rain! It was a cool, overcast day filled with the brilliant green and fragrance of the Oregon evergreens.
Our team consisted of four workers along with a few local helpers. The first stop was to Kowalski Christmas Tree Farm. It was a great start with three enthusiastic young helpers and the aid of a trusty chain saw (thank heavens for chain saws!). We collected our Noble Fir here. First we selected four gorgeous trees and then cut off the bottom two-thirds of the branches. The top third became cute, little tabletop trees for the city helpers! The remaining bottom two-thirds goes to all our customers who will receive the freshest of holiday greens, hand-cut with love.
After Kowalski’s, we headed to Hummingbird Hollow Farm, where we collected Douglas Fir from the forest. Rosemary Bernardi, owner of the farm, always lends a helping hand. And this year Bruce whipped up a fantastic home-made salsa for us workers.
So the conifers were selected, the evergreens have been cut, and the greens made their way back to Boulder Blooms ready for holiday designs. Give us a call today for the freshest evergreens in town!

The Green Machine
Green is arguable the most versatile color in floral design. As a natural backdrop seen in foliage stems, and leaves, green essentially offers its fabulous hue as a neutral color. Here at Boulder Blooms we continue to explore the vast styles and ideas green offers and inspires us to create.
Now that autumn is upon us, we began incorporating bold, rich fall hues into our predominantly green designs. Pops of burnt oranges, plums, and burgundies with shades of emerald, ivy, chartreuse, lime, and sage can turn any traditional fall arrangement into a contemporary piece of art.

Fall into Flowers!
These hot days of summer are winding up, as the Boulder nights continue to get just a bit cooler. As much as we love our local summer flowers, here in the shop we are excited for the floras and brilliant hues that come with Autumn.

Ravishing reds, aubergines, warm oranges, and brilliant yellows paired with rust and brown look dynamite for any event in the fall season. Chroma of chrysanthemums, leaves, gourds, and pomegranates in anything from cornucopias to tall slender glass vases enrich any planned occasion or a cozy cabin. Materials of pines, aspen bark, berries, cattails, wheat, tall grasses and branches keep our Boulder Blooms design team happy in our whirls of creative insanity.
These hot days aren’t officially over yet, but I can’t help to be a bit anxious for the first leaves to fall.

Buffs Back to School!!
This week the CU Buffs are flooding back into Boulder to begin the 2012 fall semester. As students move into their first dorm rooms or return to their home on the hill, parents call us here at Boulder Blooms looking for different welcome home ideas.
Plants are always a great option. Long lasting, fresh air inducing, and something that brings life into any space, Boulder Blooms has a number of options to accommodate your student’s niche.
One of our most popular options is the Contemporary Orchid. Best in an east facing window and a few ice cubes on top twice a week, orchids are easy to care for and always an elegant choice.

Our Succulent Gardens contain five different succulent species in a barn wood box made by a local artisan. These succulents love partially direct light, and appreciate a little diffusion in the day. A small amount of water a week and these suckers will remain healthy and easy to maintain.

Bromeliad plants are a fabulous choice for a brightly lit space and an edgy style. Tropical with an exotic appeal, the Bromeliads need a little bit of warm water in their stalk once a week.

A more traditional style of plant, good for house warming, is a Peace Lily, or our Perfect Plant. These plants do fine in any light, although diffused is best, and need a little water everyday. However, if you miss a few days and your plant looks a little limp, just give it a good soak and a few hours later it will pop back to life.
If your Buff is planning to rush this year or already in a sorority, keep us in mind as we have fun Greek merchandise to add to their order. Check out our Art of the Flower website for more fun ideas!

Eco Friendly Wedding
Summer time offers an abundance of Eco-friendly options for the bride who loves the outdoors.
Featured in Couture Colorado, Boulder Blooms created farm fabulous designs in bright tomato red, turquoise with little pops of yellow. Using predominantly local flowers, we constructed turquoise blooms using paper with a Crespedia center. Felt, buttons, and papers added a touch of creativity and endearment to the event.
Simple fabric bows on mason jars with loose designs bring pops of bold colors to the countryside backdrop.
The boutonnieres are playful yet classy, incorporating paper and felt flowers with a touch of ivy.
No matter the funky flavors or interesting elements your into, don’t hesitate to be creative and incorporate materials that identify you!

What’s In Season…
Now that the tulip and iris days have past for the year, Boulder Blooms has the next wave of seasonal flowers to enjoy and incorporate into our custom designs.
Native to the mountainous regions of Central America and Mexico, Dahlias are large, full-petal flowers that are sure to please. Here in Boulder, thanks to our local growers, we are able to offer locally grown varieties of these beauties.
Named after the Swedish botanist Anders Dahl, the first variety made its way to Spain in the 16th century via the Spanish conquistadors. Now, with hybridization and selective breeding, Dahlias come in over 30 species.
Along with California hydrangea, local Colorado sunflowers, and as always, lilies and asters, our cooler is filled with summer blooms we can’t wait to share with our wonderful customers and loyal cliental!

Beth and Kyle, as seen in Couture Colorado Magazine
In March, on a blustery Sunday in Estes Park, Beth and Kyle tied the knot. Our Boulder Blooms design team was hard at work all week to accommodate the full, lush styles to meet the classy, yet friendly and comfortable, look and feel for the day.

Began in the early afternoon, the ceremony located at United Methodist Church was elegant and welcoming. Aisle pieces of peonies, green hydrangea, white ranunculus and baby’s breath graced the pews with romance to compliment Beth’s stunning bouquet.

The bridal attendants’ clutched smaller versions of Beth’s bouquet, with white ranunculus, green hydrangea, and a touch of baby’s breath. Kyle and his groomsmen wore simple, stylish boutonnieres of ranunculus.

Post matrimony, the wedding party and guests headed up to the fabulous Della Terra Mountain Chateau, just as the blustery winds transformed to soft falling flakes. Inside the large reception hall stands tall windows and wood beams. Among the long tables under the twinkling stiletto lights hanging from the rafters, the transferred aisle pieces became centerpieces.

The wedding was so sweet Couture Colorado Magazine featured their story in the June edition. Congratulations Beth and Kyle!

Where You’ll Find Us…
Wedding season is a BOOMING!! Due to our heavy wedding schedules on the weekends, Boulder Blooms has closed our doors Saturday to accommodate the nuptials. We offer a variety of services and packages for a multitude of locations.
There is a venue for every sort of style and idea in the Boulder area. Here is a list of several local and destination sites where you can find the Boulder Blooms team setting up and transforming venues to meet our brides’ floral dreams.
For the contemporary bride, check out Rembrandt Yard. This venue is perfect for the up-to-the-minute bride, with modern art adorning the walls and beautiful views of the Flatirons. For another centrally located venue with a historical touch, check out the Boulderado. Built in 1909, this elegant and romantic hotel can house the whole party, and is conveniently located for Boulder foot travel.
Chautauqua Dining Hall rests along side the Flatirons at Chautauqua Park. Built in 1898, this venue is situated a little outside town for a more mountainous, private atmosphere. Another location close to Boulder but outside the main city district is Boulder Country Club. Beautiful mountain views of the Front Range, golf course, and swimming pool are sure to entertain all of the guests.
If you’re the bride that wants to get a little away from the city and tie the knot in the mountains, north of Boulder in Lyons and Estes Park offers several beautiful venues to choose from.
Closest to Boulder, just 25 minutes north, is Lyons. Planet Blue Grass sits right off the main road, and with the earthy, laid back atmosphere we’ve never heard of an unsatisfied bride. The river running behind the venue might even surprise the wedding party with a few hoots and hollers from passing-by tubers.
Up a winding road on the south side of Lyons is Lionscrest Manor. Overlooking Longs Peak and Mt. Meeker, this stylish manor is quiet and beautiful, with picturesque views and a stunning outdoor ceremony location.
A little further north will take you to Estes Park, and the historic Stanley Hotel. For Steven King fans, this venue is a must, if not to get married at least to visit. His epic novel “The Shining” was written within the walls, but doesn’t scare away any bridal party. The phenomenal views overlooking the Rockies and fabulous hotel attendants of the era will whisk you back to the early vintage 1900’s.
Further west through Estes Park will bring you to Della Terra. This venue is for the bride seeking rustic, European elegance. The outdoor ceremony venue is extremely romantic and private, and the reception area leading up to the guest room is exquisite. If you are taking a tour of potential venues, make sure to peek into one the rooms at Della Terra, and be wowed by the luxury.
Among many other venues Boulder Blooms services in and around the Boulder area is Wild Basin. Whether your dream wedding ceremony is in the meadow or by the creek, this venue offers the outdoorsy mountain brides a fabulous taste of Colorado.
